Yes, I have a phone and I work with clients over the phone. But I don't publish the number on the web. Otherwise, I get too many calls and interruptions.
I understand that it is difficult to show and explain things over email. That is why I also explain things via video screen capture. I record my screen and my audio narration in a video that you can view anytime (even if you are on the other side of the country). Clients like this when I show them how to work their content management system or their eCommerce site that I've built for them.
